The song “Please Mr. Postman” was composed by Georgia Dobbins, William Garrett, Freddie Gorman, Brian Holland, and Robert Bateman. It marked The Marvelettes’ debut on the Tamla (Motown) label and made history as the first Motown track to claim the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart, achieving this milestone in late 1961. It also reached the pinnacle of the R&B chart.

In early 1975, The Carpenters’ rendition of “Please Mr. Postman” ascended to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, reigniting its number-one status. Notably, this song has been covered by various artists, including the British rock band The Beatles in 1963 and featured as a sample in Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still” in 2017.
