“We’ve had quite an eventful evening..
When sweeping out the soot inside the fireplace, we found this bundle of bones, human sized vertebrae and a rib… We called 101 and reported it and the police came straight out and took photos, took the bones for analysis and declared our fireplace a crime scene…
They said we could still repair the side of the fireplace for the structural safety but we couldn’t touch the inside of the fireplace until a detective and bone specialist could come out… They said to let them know if we find anymore, and had a bit of a chuckle about how ridiculous it all was! I mean, obviously we’re not going to find anymore bones right? They were probably just leftovers from someone’s meal 200 years ago..
So.. I get straight back at it, and I chisel out all the old mortar ready for repointing, and on one side of the fireplace there’s a stack of stone that doesn’t match the rest and was all loose. A stone fell out of the top and when I peered in, we found more bones stuffed inside the wall?!!!!!!!!
My husband is making me wait until the morning to phone the police again, not to disturb the kids, and so we can actually sleep tonight..
But how can I sleep knowing there’s a body stuffed in my living room wall
What would everyone else do in this bizarre and horrendous situation?
Police have rocked up, and asked for more police .. so there’s a few of them in there scratching their heads! I suggested it’s just animal bones and probably nothing to worry about, and one of them said that “nobody’s dismantling a fireplace and stuffing an animal corpse in the wall and filling it back in, they’d only do that with a ‘body” of human remains..
They’ve called for more support and the ds to come take a look, looking like the fireplace is going to have to be ripped apart.. bloody great eh?
Our house is now a crime scene, and a police officer has to stand outside the crime scene rooms at all times until it’s been fully excavated/investigated we literally have to live with the police stood in our living room.
Update: The police have now gone, they’ve found loads of bones and don’t think it’s human, but without a skull, hands/feet bones etc it’s hard to tell. They’ve said to carry on with the fireplace and let them know if we find anything that resembles those things and they’ll come straight back out it’s all stuffed right into the cavity wall so I don’t think they want to have to do it.. so now I have to carry out and try and find body parts myself
